Decision '08 - my thoughts

The upcoming November election is the most significant election in recent history. We must decide if we are going to move forward toward solution, or remain in a climate of fear.

The last 8 years have been a culmination of over 35 years of fear and hate-mongering which really began with the Nixon Administration. The Republican tactics over the last 3 1/2 decades has been to dismiss educated language as elitist and unnecessary - authoritarian personalities who embrace secrecy, intolerance, obedience, and a complete eradication of checks and balances.

So what are our choices? On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton still clings to the inflated belief that she can become the Democratic nominee - her logic appears to me to be based on fuzzy math, but oh, well.

Barak Obama is accused of being "elitist" and "inexperienced." Why? Elitist because he is well-spoken, highly educated, and intelligent? That's a problem? I ache with the realization that this nation abhors clear thinking, intelligent discourse and creative solutions. But the real bee in my bonnet is the charge of inexperience. To me, the "experienced" politicians bring more of the same old same old, and Obama's approach is reasonably fresh. He is well-known in Illinois as a coaltion builder - he has a great capacity to bring people together to effect positive change. He has a solid health care plan, which, to me, is essential.

And then on the Republican side, there is John McCain who appears to stand for more of the Bush Administration's policies. He now supports tax policies he once opposed. He wants us to stay in Iraq for the next hundred years - if that's not a holy war, please tell me. Oh, and I loved this headline: Violence mars Rice's visit to Iraq. She was expecting maybe a garden party?

To me, the choice has become clear. I support Obama for President. I believe we will be at the end of our experiment with Democracy if McCain is elected.

But don't you luv how he now takes a stand against what happened in Katrina? How many years has it been?

I'm skeeered, 'cause there's an outside chance he could get elected, the same way gw wasn't! ; (

Vigilance is a must this election!

Yeah, heaven forbid we might get an intelligent prez who looks at details and tells us the truth. If that's elitist, then what does that say about us? oh what am I thinking, the highest test we want our prez to pass is whether we would want to have them over for BBQ & Beer. Oh and now, we have to add bowling to the list of absolutely necessary presidential qualifications!

It's true, divajood, our country doesn't like smart, thoughtful, well-educated people. I'm not very hopeful about November.

great post...the idea that we need a leader that can't bowl, or wear a flag pin 24/7....wow...staggering to the mind...

I don't know it we're going to have to wait that long, the way the crazed idiots called Democrats are acting..(:

I can't stand any of the three. There's only one thing I can't stand more: the behavior of the supporters of all three..(:

Atleast it is good to know that we have people that care about the Issues, and the Welfare of millions, the Dems have registered and voted in record numbers this cycle....that is something that we can all be proud of....and I like to think the record numbers will also try to stop McBush.....I thank you for being honest and speaking your mind Diva....

DK, bowling for dollars - now that's a campaign slogan.

Robin, I just think that we've dumbed down so much, it's exhausting. And now the furor over what some pastor said, in or out of context - that's not news, that's BS.

Dusty, thanks. As for the Cubbies - I'm so nervous. Had dinner with friends the other night - and the question was this: if I could only have one, would I rather have a Democratic President, or the Cubs win the World Series this year? I had to go with the President, because I'm so used to saying "wait til NEXT year" with the Cubs.

Enigma, so are you telling me that my flag decal won't get me into heaven any more?

TUA, I behave well and am fairly housebroken, and I support Obama. Do you still love me?

Oh Diva....
I guess you might get into heaven...esp. if you can bowl more than 37...( I can't ...so I guess I will hope for good BBQ down in hell...)
