Oh, Goody. Another planet for the Right Wing to trash

Yes, you can grow all kinds of things on Mars. I mean, they've found ice, which means water, and they've found nutrients in the soil.

So if you save your frequent flier miles, Sir Richard might let you save $20,000 on your flight to Mars. Yes, 200,000 miles will save you $20,000 of the cost of a Virgin Galactic flight. Real Estate is going to go quick, and I suspect that Halliburton has the no bid contracts, but what the hey.

Oh dear.

I must say that I once met Richard Branson and he was actually very nice.

I am so not good with the whole tourist to space thing however, I am just not.

FranIam, I have a honkin big crush on Sir Richard. He's very cool. However, I am not thrilled with the underlying prospects of colonizing space.

I don't have the $2million or even the 200K frequent flier miles (to get a 10% discount, big deal, if I had the $2mil, I doubt I'd care about 10% off). However, IN MY MIND, I'M ALREADY THERE!

But to address Franiam's concern, I am NOT talking about being a space tourist -- more like a space colonist, especially if Sir Richard will accompany, in just that position in the photo, on the couch, thumbs up, all conditions "GO". If Halliburton shows up, we do not have to allow them to land. Tell them go to Mercury or Venus, or even asteroid mining. Mars is for peace lovers (yes, the greeks got it wrong, red means PEACE)!

I liked the scientist's conclusion in the first article ("it looks very friendly").

DK, I am there as long as I can have chocolate. And of course, if I am accompanied by my favorite Brit. Or at least an iPod with unlimited batteries for the flight.

Pardon me, but I firmly believe fucking up other planets after what we've done here makes no sense at all.

Count me out.....even if.....

ps: Hope you're feeling better!

I have always favored sending Bush & Cheney to Mars to explore the viability.
It's a risk I am willing to take!

Coffee, I'm not sure when it really hit me, but somewhere along the line I realized that space exploration was being done specifically so we could colonize. Now, as our own planet is being destroyed by greed in various forms, the Right Wing need to colonize becomes even clearer. Personally, I wish we'd take better care of our own planet - if we could do that, then perhaps we would earn the right to visit elsewhere.

Fran, I agree - it's a tough job, but someone's got to do it. Perhaps we could just forget to give them space gear to wear.

We all know that once the technology is there - assuming we haven't killed each other off - that we'll be colonizing as much as we can. It's human nature to move on, destroy stuff in our way, and move on to the next place.

And Halliburton already owns Mars, so I think the rest of us are stuck with some of the rocky moons around the gas giants. Bring your parka.

Coffee, you're right. Another planet to fuck up. Sir Richard is one of the coolest rich people on the planet.

I am fascinated with space travel and would love to be on that flight. Alas, coming up with the $200K doesn't seem feasible.

Stella, save your miles for that $20K reduction. Not.

Randal, just as long as Halliburton doesn't do the gardening, I'm just saying.
