A meme

Thorne has tagged me with The Little-Known Favorites Meme. Rules: List and describe three of your favorite books that other people might not be familiar with. Then tag five people.

So, okedoke. Right before I go on vacation, eh? Hmmm.

1. The Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Pi is a young boy who is shipwrecked for 227 days with a Bengal Tiger named Richard Parker. It is an extraordinary story of hope, spirituality, and survival, which I feel we need in the dark years of the Bush administration.

2. Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner. This epic story of transformation is one of the most beautifully written books I have ever encountered in American Literature.

3. Where I'm Calling From by Raymond Carver. Actually, anything by Raymond Carver. Carver died the year I got sober; he died from cancer, and with a body of work that is nothing short of exquisite. If you haven't read his work, run, don't walk, to find him.

And now: I have to tag five people.

Lulu Maude for her love of books.

MariaMaria because she has a great view of things.

WeezieLou because she's always interesting.

Proud Progressive because she's got strong opinions, and I like that.

Traveling Man because he's on a spiritual path himself.

And anyone else who might want to play.

Oh, I'm pleased. I love your blog so much, and you have listed 3 I haven't read. I'm putting them on my amazon wish list! Thank you!

well how nice of you to pick me , true enough i got some strong opinions, and the trouble they get me into ..lol anyhootie.

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zofon. It is a mytery novel, translated only a few yrs ago from Spanish ,(where it was a best seller for several yrs)
It is so well crafted and begins in the Library of Forgotten Books. It follows him into adult hood with many twists and turns. One of my all time Best Books Ever Written Favs. It is that kind of book you do not want to end because the writing is so good.

The Last Two Books by Chalmers Johnson, of his Trilogy that starts with Blow Back.. But they are, The Sorrows of Empire, and Nememis.

.These two books will change the way you see the USA forever. I cannot reccommend these books enough. Believe they ought to be mandatory High School Reading (i guess i do have strong opinions..)

He exposes with detail, the inner workings of the USA Imperialistic Empire, and Military Industrial Complex in a very readable style.

Hi Ms. Diva, I've shut down my blog for a while; maybe for good. I wasn't quite ready to delete it so I have it set up so only I can access it. Thanks for checking in.

I made a note of Carver - will check him out when I get home to the library. Next year, I might be raving about Raymond.

Yup, Life of Pi is certainly not something you might have read somewhere before. It left me a bit more confused than usually and that pleased me immensely. I had no knowledge about Wallace Stegner until perhaps five years ago. Now he is one of my faves. I read Angle of Repose and I share your enthusiasm about it. Based on these two, I am sure to like Carver who still remains unknown to me.

Love & Peace

I have to agree with what you said about Angle of Repose - what a jaw-dropping work of art, every paragraph!
