What we CAN do

Over at America Weeps, there's a post asking the question: Why have the Signatories of the Geneva Convention not filed War Crimes charges against Cheney, Bush, and this current Administration? He provides the answer with THIS article by Elizabeth Holtzman, published Sept. 23, 2006 in the Chicago Sun-Times.

She writes: Thirty-two years ago, President Gerald Ford created a political firestorm by pardoning former President Richard Nixon of all crimes he may have committed in Watergate -- and lost his election as a result. Now, President Bush, to avoid a similar public outcry, is quietly trying to pardon himself of any crimes connected with the torture and mistreatment of U.S. detainees.

I urge you to read the full article, and, more importantly, spread the word. Contact your Congressional Representative, urging them to bring articles of Impeachment. Get the truth out.

UPDATE

over at Liberally Mirth, D-Day and Mirth have come up with the proposal to literally clean house. Elect people who actually will restore our Bill of Rights, Habeus Corpus, and decency to the proceedure. Mirth says "We must do two things in 2008: Vote out this congress. Elect a Dem Prez and a Dem congress….or Independents if that becomes an option."

I agree. And they've created an image we can all use:

To even read the words "...quietly trying to pardon himself..." drives me quietly crazy. I've never seen an administration misuse, abandon, or break the law like this bunch. I heard John Dean say on Olbermann the other evening that Pelosi should reconsider her promise not to impeach, and should start with Cheney. I wish I wish I wish.

"quietly trying to pardon himself". this man is unpardonable.

Nancy Pelosi needs to shut the "F" up about impeachment being off the table. Now she is saying some bull hockey about how we're sharpening our arrows and we have a lot of arrows or some such. Get real. What is it that Congress is dodging, their complicity in torture?

We don't know the reasons why Congress has ignored the will of the people they supposedly represent, but we can be sure that there is more going on than obstructionist Republicans.

We have a duty to wrest control of our gov't from the filthy hands of the Neos, both Neo Republicans and Neo Democrats.

There are no easy solutions. It will be a long process. The goal, for now, is to elect in 2008 a Dem or Independent Prez and to elect a representative Congress.

To accomplish the 2nd, ALL congressional incumbents should be voted out of office. The pitiful few good ones, if they still want to serve the country will find plenty of work in the private sector where they are needed and where they may be more effective. A clean sweep is required to stop business as usual and to tell newly-elected...This is OUR house and you represent US!

2008 is the year to do it. There are 33 Senate seats up for grabs and all Representative seats are contested. If we don't act this year, then we're stuck in business as usual until 2011.

Congressional Dems don't think they have a problem. No matter their actions, they feel confident that we will re-elect them simply because they are Democrats. It's true we want to elect Dems, but it doesn't have to be these Dems.

It's time to get our revolt on.
Clean House 2008.

Good post. It is apparent that Bush is moving to shield himself, and his inner circle from the prosecution they so richly deserve.

Now Obama is in the no impeachment mode! He says impeachment should be saved for grievous crimes. He just lost me on that one.

Hey Jood this is so depressing to see we cannot do anything

Robin, he just kind of tries to slip it under the radar. We are SO fucked.

Weezie, no kidding!

Anon-Paranoid, thanks! I love your blog, and your comments around the "internets."

Pursey, you know there is something deeper going on, I swear.

Mirth, some of us should consider a run for office. I'm serious. You and/or D-Day come to mind. Betmo comes to mind.

Larry, thank you.

Peacechick, you've got to be kidding me? What part of grievous crimes does Obama not understand?

Holly, we CAN do something. As Mirth suggests, we can clean house. We can get our Revolution on. We can take back power.
