The Only Difference Between a Pit Bull and a Hockey Mom

Appears to be a $150,000 wardrobe. Since August, 2008.

The cash expenditures immediately raised questions among campaign finance experts about their legality under the Federal Election Commission's long-standing advisory opinions on using campaign cash to purchase items for personal use. Politico did pursue the McCain campaign for comment, however, spokeswoman Maria Comella said “The campaign does not comment on strategic decisions regarding how financial resources available to the campaign are spent." So, dressing the Vice Presidential Candidate to look like Tina Fey is a strategic decision?

I guess it's more important to dress well than it is to actually have a point of view and intellectual curiosity. This bizarre form of window-dressing has caused real Republicans and real Conservatives to re-think their alliegence to a candidacy that prefers lies and innuendo to common decency. It motivated 4-Star General and former Secretary of State Colin Powell to break ranks with the Republicans and endorse Obama. It moved Christopher Buckley to endorse Obama. Chris Buckley, son of the father of Modern Intellectual Conservativism William F. Buckley, wound up being booted from the magazine his father founded, The National Review for his obviously socialist leanings.

Look, it takes more than spending $75,062.63 at Nieman Marcus or $49,425.74 at Saks Fifth Avenue to make a campaign work. Perhaps Republican donors should ask for a refund?

I've been saying for years that clothes don't make the man. Or in this case, the woman.

All campaigning should be done in t-shirts!

Shit, give me the $150k and I'll have so much stash, I can hallucinate a fancy wardrobe for the next 50 years.

I've been hoping you would tackle the RNC's use of public funding to dress Tina, I mean Sarah. We saw Michelle Obama on The View wearing a dress that cost less than $150. She looked like a million bucks. It's not just Sarah that the big bucks are being spent on--there's the first Dude and Trig and Tuck and Piper and what's her name and probably Levi as well. It you're going to make your kids part of your campaign I guess it's real important that they look like rich Republicans.

Great job on this, Diva.

$150K buys a hell of a lot of lipstick.
(BTW, I put beefcake up for you today, Diva.)

I'm with Randal, T-shirts for all!

SNL is an extremely low-budget show. I guarantee Tina Fey got the same look for a lot less money.

I'm starting to understand how the Republicans ran up such massive budget deficits.

sal, only if they're metal t-shirts!

In fairness its mostly maternity clothes.

Every membr of that family is either pregnant or will be pregnant in the near future.

You can see the dilemma.

This FLOORS me, absolutely. What the hell were they thinking?

This is ELITIST behavior. Thanks for posting, wellsaid!

Consumerism--it's the American Way!

Just think of Miss Sarah as making her own contribution to the stimulation of the economy, courtesy of the RNC.

How dare you question the Republican Strategery??

You must not be a REAL American.
You did not even make an apple pie yesterday.

* But wait there's more!
Palin charged the State of Alaska $21, 000 to fly her kids around on "official first family business".
I blogged that story today.

Palin is going to put the SNL writers out of their jobss, just telling her story, verbatim!!!

I have this impression in my mind of Palin at Saks saying, "...what'do'ya mean this doesn't come in moose?"

All I can think about is how many poor kids could be fed with $150K.

Well, it was either give her the $150k wardrobe or have her read, recite and interpret the U.S. Constitution. If you part of the RNC braintrust, which door would you choose?

Ditto what Thailandchani said...Well written post.

Thank you very much for flying the Peace Globe gallery banner. I can't wait to read your post on November 6th. If this is any indication of the standard of your writing, we are all in for a treat.

I am seriously fed up with this wardrobe issue. Check out who doubled Killa's spending over two months in one night.

Did you know Mary Lincoln treated her wardrobe as a matter of national importance, even suggesting at one point that appointed officials help pay for her outfits? Of course, they were Republicans.

More and more, it's looking like the Democrats are going to win the Executive and Congressional branches by a landslide. On what other issues could we put our efforts. Why distract ourselves?

Dean Wormer, LOL!!! A riot!!!

Hi Jood and Uta: long time, no see. (Sorry...) Twitter still confuses me.

I was wondering why sarah had been looking so fantabulous lately. So THAT's what $150K will buy! Of course what is underneath all those designers clothes is still the same monstrous viper.

Where could you send me if I had $150K for a fantabulous vacation?

DivaJood said...

Hey, all y'all, since I'm running for President, I think it must be wise that y'all chip in and buy ME a new wardrobe too.

And DK, if you had $150K to go on vacation, well that's a whole separate post!

I agree with Stella. This is a non-issue. There have been gobs of money raised, and spent, on both sides and I guarantee that if we knew where it all went we'd be sick. Politicians waste money. It's what they do. That and lie.

F-it. Who wants cake?

150k...that's more than 3 times what "joe the i'm not a plumber"makes in a year. I guess that mcpain is just "spreading the wealth around"..

DivaJood said...

I dunno, the T-Shirts at the Tina Turner Concert were in the neighborhood of $65 (the Acid Queen thermal was gorgeous).

Talk about redistributing the wealth! I would be thoroughly disgusted if the campaign donations to Barack Obama were squandered on his personal make up artist, hair stylist and a wardrobe that costs as much as many people who support him make in one year. Perhaps the total income of five or ten people make in one year. He would not be forgiven. Yet the reformers who want to clean up Washington want to polish their own images on other people's money.

Oh, lordy, could you imagine if Obama had a personal stylist? Wait. He does. It's Michelle Obama, who happens to shop at places that are affordable. Hmmm.
