Self Portrait Marathon #5

I jumped into this self-portrait marathon with both feet, thinking it would be a great way to make me get back into the discipline of drawing. I'd not done any self portraits since 1995 -- and that was a four year journal of self portraits I began as I got divorced after a 22 year marriage. Nobody sees those drawings. They are dark. Dark dark dark. But something else is going on, and I don't know what it is. Restless, irritable, discontented, a bundle of nerves. I go to work and I think I should be doing something else (so I blog from work). Here's the fifth image in this marathon.

I like the intensity in this and the others you did, DJ. And about that "Dark Journal" - I did something similar in 1980 and published it under the title "Augustine's True Confession". Handwritten text and drawings combined.

Agree with your political views too.

Thanks Natalie. It is an interesting challenge - I like what all the others are doing very much. Clearly the way Sparky laid down the challenge just made folks be open.

My marriage of 35 years ends next week, and I'm using the marathon in a positive manner - it does tend to take me away from all that. And looking at your and other drawings is always a pleasure.

anonymous, the marathon is positive. Self portraiture is a path toward internal examination. It can be a door toward a new path altogether. Glad you are participating!

This is very cool, can't wait to see more! I am an illustrator, too... maybe I should try it. I only have done one drawing of myself and i'm not even sure where it is!

Helen Wheels, the group is growing daily. Go over to crackpotbob's site (link on my blogroll) to join up. It is amazing what people are doing. Some very moving images.
