Supreme Court vs. The Decider

High Court Rejects Bush's Claim That He Alone Sets Detainee Rules

The 5-3 decision was a sharp rebuke on Bush's contention that he is above international law. Bushco contends that the rules of the Geneva Convention do not apply to the USA, and that they can set their own rules in their quest for world domination. I mean, in their war on Terrorism.

In practical terms, the impact of the decision is limited: it doesn't free any prisoners; it says that terrorism suspects may be tried under rules used by the military for court-martial or even by new rules as yet to be determined by Congress.

Justice Stephen G. Breyer said in a concurring statement "The court's conclusion ultimately rests upon a single ground: Congress has not issued the executive a 'blank check.' "

The Decider, of course, responded by saying "I understand that Congress hasn't given me a blank check. But I've got me a steady supply of credit and I'm gonna just do what I want because I am The Decider."

Frist is ready to present a bill before the Senate to give the President that blank check. I have mentioned lately how much this country is starting to scare me? I don't remember being born into a corporatist-fascist monarchy.

Robin Andrea, it's stunning how quickly this country has de-voloved into this disaster. I'm quite terrified. Starting to scare me happened in November 2000 when Bush & company staged the bloodless coup, stealing that election.

9-11 was the best thing that could have happened to help bush/cheney do what they have done to our country.

I'm afraid the Congress will indeed hand him his blank check and if they do they have just given away everything that we all value in America, our freedom.

Please let there be more sanity than insanity.

The Decider gets to decide who he gets to torture. After all, The Decider said the Constitution was just a piece of paper. Later, his mouthpiece said dead soldiers were just a number. Mind numbing. Psychopaths run the country and their sadistic followers are all in a tither of titillation. Who'd a thunk so many Americans would be overjoyed about torture and death. The same group that is determined to make damned sure no one has any sex unless it is them and involves an underaged prostitute or Jeff Gannon.

A lot could be said about the Guantanamo horror story. But I always come back to this : what would the US goverment do if many hundred American citizens would be detained for over 1600 days, withouth being acused, without being seen by their familly, without lawyers, etc, in a remote area innacessible, and with rumors of torture. How many days, months, years would the US goverment, the US population put up with that ? I doubt it would go 1600 plus days without some sort of outcome. Yet, Bush and his buddies are going on with this like it is just a footnote in their so called shifty rhetoric 'war on terror'. They act like citizens from other countries are sub-humans, because, for sure, they would never tolerate that being done to Americans somehwere else in the world... This is all so sad and so shamefull. Not just for the US, but for all democratic countries that dont have the backbone to stir up things at UN or on another international platform. The silence of the other countries is just as shamefull. Ok, off the soapbox.

POP, there are plenty that think that 9/11 was sanctioned by Bush & Cheney -- and some who believe that they masterminded and funded it. Where it will end is anybody's guess right now.

Karena, thanks for reminding me what an idiot Tony Snow really is. And my god, with Rush Limpdick as one of their most vocal supporters, you'd think people would say WTF?

Suzanne, if this were happening to US Citizens abroad, well... wait a minute? Aren't some of the detainees US citizens? With the wrong last names?

Ultimately, the silence of other nations makes them complicit in Bush's growing dictatorship. The violence of silence.

Tina, it's terrifying really. But I still hold out hope that we can make a change to what our Constitution and Bill of Rights promised us.
