Summer with Code Pink

When I first started this blog, I thought it would be mostly about travel, because that's what I do. After my first post, I couldn't figure out how to find it again, so it languished for almost a year, and then I found it again by serindipity: Alicia sent an email about her session with Neil Young, and when I went to her blog, I found my own again.

Okay, I may have a Masters Degree (fine art, but still) but I was born blond, and I'm a grandmere, and sometimes technincally challenged. So stop laughing. Okay, don't stop laughing.

Still, by the time I found my blog again, I was quite outraged about what's happening to America. So my blog became less about travel, and more about, well, politics. But Code Pink has a handful of travel opportunities (I don't sell these, this is all Code Pink's deal) and it is a lovely blending of politics and travel, so here they are:

Cycling with Code Pink. CODEPINK Midwest Trip July 21-25

Join Medea Benjamin, CODEPINK co-founder, and Fernando Suarez del Solar, Gold Star Families for Peace, on an exciting ride from Madison to Milwaukee to Chicago. This five day segment of the cross-country trip includes two full project days for local peace activism in Madison and Chicago. You can join for a day or the week. Cost is $80-$200 per day sliding scale.

Greet or host the peace cyclers along the way:

Meet with the Bike-Aid riders when they come through your town this summer! Your local peace and justice organization can plan events or host the group for a night. Check out the partial list of tour cities below to find out if you live near a place that Bike-Aid will be cycling through, then contact Deb (deb@globalexchange.org) to find out how to meet up with the riders!

What a fantastic way to combine your travel expertise and your political passions. This is a great list of things to do. I hadn't heard of Code Pink before, so I will definitely check it out.

Wish I could go to all of these things. When I first saw Cindy Sheehan on the news - I wanted to pack up right then and there and join her. Physical limitations can be such a bitch! Anyway - I had heard of Code Pink. I wish them and everyone involved with the peace movement all the best!

Robin, I wish I was working on any of those trips -- but alas, I'm not. Still, it's a great thing for people to do, and so I put the info up for folks to see. The retreat sounds great. The work in New Orleans is closed now, they have enough people.

TFLS, I understand. They are all amazing things to do, but do require mobility -- except perhaps the retreat.

Okay, I admit I did laugh at the part about not being able to find your blog. I remember the morning I decided to start my own blog. I wrote down every address as I went along because I hadn't a clue what the hell I was doing.

Sounds like your life is full and Code Pink is one of the groups I admire most.

pop: it never once occurred to me that I wouldn't find my blog after that first time. I mean, really. But, no. No, no no.

Diva,

Please let me know if you are coming to Austin. I want to meet you,

In the meantime, my blog server, Typepad is down. I am asking others to pass the word that Bush blamed Syria and Iran for the supporting Hezbollah and Israel says the punishment will be extreme.

I fear we are on the verge of a multi-country war in the middle east, and this news needs to be spread.

If you have time, please post this on your blog.

Here is a web address to a story posted by Raw Story.

Karena, thanks -- I will put something up. I was sick the other day when I read that Olmert won't release the prisoners. I fear you are right, a multi-country war in the Middle East is about to happen, WW3.

I fear the worst too, and it has been brewing right under our noses for a long time. No one wanted to believe that Bush would invade Iran. The ones who did believe said it would be Israel who launched the first strike, with us as followers, all well-planned to begin with. Here it comes. It takes much cooler heads then Bolton, Bush, Rice or Olmert, but since they are getting what they want they do not seek peace as a solution.

Karena,I recall an article about 8 years ago? I don't remember exact date, but it was about PNAC's plan for "democratizing" the Middle East. The keys were Iraq, then Iran and Syria. If Bush invades Iran, Syria is next. Matter of time.
