Adopt a Political Candidate

This morning, over at FranIAm's place, she brought up an important point. She says we MUST become invested in good local politicians. She then introduced us to Darcy Burner, Democrat for Congress in Washington's 8th District.

On July 2, her house burned to the ground. Her attitude: "We lost stuff. It's just stuff. The boy is fine. The husband is fine." She is in a tight race in the 8th Congressional District against U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Auburn, who narrowly won re-election in a 2006 contest with Burner.

In light of the fact that I am feeling sorry for myself, I have decided to do the next indicated thing to get out of my naval gazing. The Diva is adopting Darcy Burner. I am doing this for a number of reasons: first, Reichert, although a moderate Republican, supports Bush's Iraq war; second, Burner is part of a group of Congressional Candidates who, if elected, will call for immediate withdrawal from Iraq; third, I really like her attitude.

Plus, as FranIAm pointed out, she needs the fundraising assistance. So, go here and donate, let's elect Democrats.

Adoption! Beautiful.

If we want to see legislation that will happen, we must have a group of able and willing politicians.

I am going to look for some others to support as well.

Money, I ain't got, but energy and time, that I have.

Dusty, why do I always forget to cross-post?

FranIAm, I'm with you - low on dough, but I can work my butt off.

Oh, Bravo! I'm taking two: Barbara Boxer and Jerry Brown. Boxer is running for her seat again in 2010, and...

Jerry Brown is running for Governor of California... again! He was governor before the voters passed the two-term limit. I loved his retort about the "Governor Moonbeam" insult: "I worked hard for that title."

Divajood, maybe you and I can share...

There's Ed O'Reilly of Massachusetts. He's running against Kerry, who for the first time in 24 years has a primary challenger in O'Reilly. All that talk about him getting Clinton supporters on his side because Kerry endorsed Obama doesn't interest me much. What interests me is that O'Reilly is pro gay marriage and critical of the Iraq War. He won't win, but it's good to see people in Mass swinging over to more liberal Democrats. Like many in Mass., I don't especially like Kerry and would like to see an alternative.

I wish I had some extra loot since I'm lucky with my Rep. Now, if we could find a way to get rid of Crocodile Tears, Jr., the Dishonorable Senator George Voinovich.

I don't even want to think about my place burning down. Too early for a drink?

Stella, I am happy to share Jerry Brown with you - anything to get rid of The Governator.

Pagan, if nothing else, it makes Kerry more accountable. That's what Marcy Winograd did when she challenged Harman.

Randal, you could challange Senator Croc. Except you are busy managing my campaign to be first Diva President. Okay, no reality teevee. Only sports.

Maria, who are you going to adopt?
