I've been to O'Hare about ten times but never stepped outside the airport.

Sending good thoughts...

Betmo, thanks. I told FranIAm that I love/hate Los Angeles, and the only thing I hate about Chicago is the weather. Who knows, maybe I will move back there.

Agi, while O'Hare has some very nice features to it, what with book stores, and places to grab a nosh, it is not the city. You need to go into the city, man.

FranIam, Thank you. I need 'em.

I hope you can move back to Chicago and do all of your world-wide travels to warmer climes during the winter months.

DivaJood said...

Robin, I don't know for sure if that's what I should do, but time will tell.

Me, too. But you could tell, couldn't you?

I just told MathMan this morning that if he ever wants to move back there, I'll go. I might even promise not to whine about the cold. Well, I'll try, at least.

Hang in there.

I think I'm going to go get a hot dog for lunch. There's a place in Marietta Georgia that sells Vienna beef dogs....

Oh, I rolled you on the blog!

Oh, it's just Chicago.

I kid because I care. ;-) And hey, what's wrong with winter? Okay, the giant ice storms they got last time out wouldn't have been all that swell, but in LA, you have heat nearly all the time, right? And the pizza probably isn't as good.

DCup, between you and Mathman, we should start our own little Chicago Homesick Blues Blog. We aren't allowed speakers on our computers at work, hence no streaming XRT.

Randal, Pizza in California often has pineapple on it. Swear to god. That's just WRONG.

I'm dying to get to Chicago to dig the Art Institute. Like Agi, I've been to O'Hara many times but that's it.

Where do you live now?

I am profoundly affected by weather, so am really limited in where I can find peace in this northern hemisphere. It'd be a bit easier for me if I was in the southern. When I visit beautiful northern places, I am always thinking, now why can't we just move the weather from xxxx up here? That's sort of what an old Sci-Fi writer, Bliss, wrote about in his "Okie" series: the nice cities somehow gain control of their bad weather. Next, they become so self-contained, they are able to become "Cities in Flight", detaching themselves from earth AS IS & traveling around the universe. Wouldn't you love to see the cosmos from the comfort of Chicago?

D.K. Raed said...

typo! The author is James Blish. I've been thinking of him because his series begins in 2018, with the US having become a completely paranoid fascist nation. Someone develops an anti-gravity technology, called the spindizzy, and an anti-aging drug which enable entire cities to flee the oppressive political situation on Earth. Not bad for having been written in the 1950's, eh?

Pagan, there are some amazing art venues in Chicago: Art Institute, Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Outsider and Innuit Art, on and on.

DK, that would be so great, to be able to move the good weather to where we live. The thing about good science fiction is that it is always political, and always quite prescient.

Dusty, I want my own private plane.

Fabulous museums, great views, wonderful summers... really sucky winters. Great town though.

Hey diva - it me, your fellow Chicago baseball guy. Here what I say to Randal - poo poo.

And my response to Dcup, I am not sure about the cold but I would go back for sure.

DivaJood said...

Blueberry, that about sums it up!

Mathman, I agree. Poo poo to Randal, unless he manages my campaign to be the first Diva President.

I love Chicago and Chicago pizza is the best in the world. Randal, we have great pizza out here in L.A.: New York, Boston, St. Louis, and, best of all, Chicago.

BJs tastes like honest-to-goodness Chicago Pizza. Have you been there, divajood? It's so good, it's evil.

The heat randal... The summer is already shaping up to be miserable. I don't know if the temperature where I work will dip below 100 during the day at all. But no lake effect. We missed that one.

(Nice to know global warming is junk science.)

I instantly recognized that skyline only because of a game I play, MS Flight Simulator. Meigs Field (now defunct) used to be the default field. I "learned" to fly there.

Being a transplanted Michigander, I too have my moments, but then I remember that January Northwest wind whipping an actual temperature reading of "0" into an unholy -25 reading, and I think: "Maybe South Carolina isn't so bad after all.":) Being stuck in LA tho...(: My Inlaws are from S. Cal. Immediaately after my move to the south from Michigan, I wasn't exactly an admirer of the south. Then we went to visit my wife's parents. I held my tongue until we were on the plane headed homeward bound, then said to her:
"I may have found the only place short of hell itself, that makes me wish for the south."

I do understand tho. Those Michigan summers on a lake in my boat, the crackle of leaves under my feet in October as I took a walk in the woods, the awesomely soft beauty of a new snowfall.....

Al Gore invented global warming so he could 72 billion kilowatt-hours at his Versailles-sized house.

As for the poo-pooing, boo to the Cubs and White Sox!

Unknown said...

Randal - can't we get along? Who would think that people who are on the same political page just could not see eye to eye on the most important topic - baseball. It is just too bad.

But the Sox and Cubs both are in 1st, at least the Indians had a lot of people pick them to win the World Series year. Darn those injuries.

He he he he he!

DivaJood said...

Stella, where is BJ's? I would kill for pizza without pineapple. I live near the Ocean, so I get that "lake effect" all year. However, Lake Pacific Ocean is on the wrong side - when I drive north, it should be on my right side, instead, it's on the left.

TUA, the wind chill factor alone is enough to send me screaming for the comfort of Los Angeles. However, it is what it is.

Randal, I always thought there was something fishy about that house. Is Gore really French? As for poo-pooing anything, you can't do that, you are my campaign manager, and if you want to fly on Air Force One when I win and go to France, you better become a Cubs Fan.

Mathman, well said. You have channelled your inner Rodney King. Proud of you. See me playing the world's smallest violin about the Indians?

North Side? Loop? South Side? Burbs? ...Neighborhood?
Where would you place yourself?

DivaJood said...

B.E., I would probably move back to Evanston, or the North Side, lakefront. That would be ideal.
